When I got back home, to Poland I was beat up. My knee hurt, I didn’t know what exactly happened inside it but I was sure this time its not gonna go away itself. Driving back from Warsaw airport I was full of sadness and all my thoughts were on “what to do about my left knee”. Long story short. I got a RTG scan, a MRI scan

and went for an appointment with an orthopedic doctor who is one of the best sports ortho in the north of Poland Paweł Rybak.
Diagnosis: torn acl and probably a meniscus tear. For 8 weeks I was under a physiotherapist care, preparing for surgery. It’s really a hard time with recovery and soon to come work. I’m full of hope. My manager at the theater agreed for me to come back just as a mixer until I will be ready to start working physically. It would be good if everything goes as planned. Maybe not planned but wishful thought about.
On the 1st October in the morning I had my surgery at Nadmorskie Centrum Medyczne, at their “one day surgery” ward, performed by Maciej Pawlak. I was the first one on the table, 8 o’clock.

I was so freakin’ scared. Shaved my leg, got a drip connected and a hand band with my name. Everything that happened since I got to the operation room is like a really strange dream now. I was blabbering, not talking, out of stress. The first question I got from the staff there was “which sport?”. Another signature, that I’m aware of what’s going on, three kinds of mind change and pain switchers, because I was awake and aware the whole time. Shot in the spine, shot in leg nerve and something to my drip that.. made me go a bit high. First performed arthroscopy of the knee – no meniscus damage, one bundle of the acl torn. Graft taken, reconstruction performed, back to the ward. When I started to feel my leg again, painkillers. The same day, when the doctor performed all the surgeries that day, he came by to see how I’m doing and most important how does the knee look like right after surgery.

Next day in the morning, a nurse took out the drain, and the doctor came with a physiotherapist from Rahasport, that showed my how to use crutches and gave me exercises for the first 4 days. 5th day I was supposed to start with Marcin my rehabilitation process. Of course I’ve got everything on a cd, the whole surgery. So I came back home. Naturally Martha drove me home and visited on the day of surgery. Since that day I was living on my couch or in bed for almost 2 weeks.

Because of the clots I was able to get up twice a day to the toilet, my calf hurt so bad I couldn’t stay horizontal more than few minutes. Everyday I was exercising just how I was told. On the 5th day after I had my first after op physiotherapy appointment. I have them three days in a week. 10 days I spent lying, exercising, fighting clots, fighting swelling and trying to keep it together.

Day after day it looks better. 12 post op I started to “walk” without crutches at home. It looked rather like I was creeping around than walking. 13 post op got the stitches out and some blood punctured from the knee.
Now I work mostly with accomplishing and keeping a full stretch and a bit with bending, thats easier to get later on. I do walking exercises after which I stopped creeping and walk a bit more normal, Martha says this time it looks like I would be floating. Whatever, it’s about getting good walking scheme and the ROM (range of motion). One is an outcome of the other.
When I think about it, those 2 weeks passed by in a jiffy. It’s getting better with the knee and in my head. State of mind I reached while sitting, no, not sitting, staying in bed at home for such a long time. The pain that didn’t want to leave. Being dependent all the time on someone.
Big thanks to my parents, who took care of me for the first few days, to Martha for being there for the whole time, my little brother for just hanging and for all those who cared even just to ask how I’m doing.
I’m just at the beginning of the journey. Lots of work before me.

If everything goes well, I will be going back to work next Tuesday.
Fingers crossed.
